I don't post many post anymore about the exciting life Blake lives while he is at work. For One I would be on the computer all day everyday. Before I get to the exciting stuff...I just wanted to share that Blake got another email a few weeks back from his lieutenant. This email was similar to the first, acknowledging him for his hard work, and how much he is appreciated. I can tell that these two emails have boosted Blake's self esteem and is also a reminder of why he does what he does, and continues to love his career. It makes me happy to know that he loves his job! Here is the juicy stuff! Last night 9/21/13 Blake said he was on a traffic stop and as they were finishing up another call came out. Person with a weapon...no other call details. Blake said he was literally right around the corner, so he headed that way. He told the dispatcher to call out detail over radio since they were already pulling up on scene. As they are pulling up in front of the house, call details say, husband went to get his gun and is loading it to blow his head off. Blake and another officer are at the front door, he then tells dispatcher to tell the wife, if she is able to come out side safely while husband is in bedroom to grab anyone else in the house and come out. The wife and son run out, Blake ask if anyone else is in the house and she said her daughter is in the front room. The wife said she didn't grab her because she was sleeping on the couch. Geez! Blake said that by this time the front door is wide open and they are standing there. Meanwhile the guy walks out of the bedroom and the way the house is set up he is standing behind a wall that's waste high behind the kitchen counter. They ordered guy to drop his gun, since he supposedly has one, and put his hands where they can see them. The guy just stands there and doesn't move. Blake said he repeated to order him to drop his weapon and show his hands, then the guy lifts the gun and points it to his own head. At this point Blake and the other officer are taking cover behind the car in front of the house and trying to convince the guy to put the weapon down. Blake said the guy stood there with the gun to his head for a long time. It would have been justified to shoot him once he made the movement from gun at his side to his head, but Blake said he never felt the guy wanted to harm them just himself. Blake and the other officer said if he moves the gun from his head in anyway they were shooting..Blake said he would be going home tonight. Over the radio they where asking Blake if he was ok, but Blake didn't want to take his attention off the guy with a weapon to answer the radio, but once they realized they were in no harm he responded that they were ok but they had a guy with a gun to his head and at a standoff. They were in deep north past Woodland springs area and so it takes the other officer awhile to get there. Blake and the other officer were by themselves for about 10 minutes before they had any back up. During that 10 minutes Blake was trying his hardest to convince the guy to put the weapon down and surrender. Blake had even had a 15 minute conversation with this same guy on the 4th of July, and used that to try to bring him back to reality, but he wasn't budging. When ZT (zero tolerance) and SWAT got there they pretty much took over. Right before they all got there the guy had gone into the back bedroom. They set up a perimeter around the house and continued to negotiate with the guy and about an hour after this all began he came out and surrendered. Note: I wasn't there and I am basing this story on what I remember Blake telling me! Here is the part that gives me chills...The other officer on scene with Blake had decided to assist Blake on his traffic stop prior to the person with a weapon call, which they don't normally do. So I am extremely grateful for the other officer who for only the Lord knows why decided to back Blake up when he didn't have to. I testify that the Lord is watching over us and blessing us when we least expect it. Had the other office not assisted Blake he would have been the only officer on scene and who knows if things would have played out differently. Blake also told me that two of his other team mates said, had they of taken the call they probably would have shot the guy when he went to put the gun to his head. Blake said he would have shot had he moved the gun from his head or made a move toward the front room, and he never did and everyone told him he did the right thing. That he possibly saved two lives. The little asleep on the couch stayed asleep and was unharmed. This was the first call that Blake has taken where he might actually have to fire his gun for real. He said the thrill of these calls sounds better than when you have to actually take them, he doesn't care to ever take another call like that again. Today Blake went into work and was praised by all his co-workers for the great job he did last night. I am grateful that Blake was able to return home safely to us, I actually woke up at 4am and noticed he was still gone. he had a long night. I truly believe Blake is serving in his life calling. He loves what he does and doesn't let the thrill of the job get to his head and take away his clear thinking. I am blessed to call him my husband and father to my children!
